Won the 2012 U.S. Open Championship at Olympic Club in San Francisco by one stroke from Graeme McDowell and Michael Thompson, which moved him to a career-high fifth in the Official World Golf Ranking. The previous season he finished second on the PGA TOUR Money List after winning twice.

One of six children, he has a fine record in team golf, representing the victorious United States teams in the 2007 Walker Cup and the Presidents Cup in 2011, 2013 and 2019. Was also part of the United States Ryder Cup teams in 2012, 2014 and 2018.
