One of the brightest prospects in world golf, Takumi turned professional in October 2020 having dominated the top spot in the amateur world rankings for more than 12 months.

In 2015 he was low amateur at the Japan Open Golf Championship, a feat he also achieved in 2017. He has since registered multiple global victories, including the 2018 Asia Pacific Amateur Championship and 2019 Mitsui Sumitomo VISA Taiheiyo Masters becoming the fourth amateur in history to win a professional event in Japan. In just his fourth event as a professional he won the prestigious Dunlop Phoenix Tournament at the fourth extra hole of a sudden death play-off.

Taking up golf at the age of five, he is a huge sports enthusiast and attended Tohoku Fukushi University.
