Ended a 20 year victory drought in spectacular fashion by winning the 70th US Senior PGA Championship, becoming the first player since Denis Watson in 2007 to win a Senior Major Championship in his first event as a Senior Tour player. Received a special invite from The PGA of America to play in the Championship, finishing two strokes clear of Larry Mize to join Arnold Palmer as winner of the Alfred S. Bourne Trophy on his US Champions Tour debut. Had not won in 334 starts on the US PGA Tour before quitting professional golf to become an assistant club professional at Winged Foot and also dabble in the home construction business. Finished tied 13th on his Senior Open Championship debut at Sunningdale.
