Became the second Welshman to win the Challenge Tour Rankings, after Paul Affelck in 1992, when he finished Number One in 2006. Enjoyed tremendous consistency during the season but it was his ability to rise to the big occasion which enabled him to top the Rankings with victory in the Kazakhstan Open and joint second place finish in the Apulia San Domenico Grand Final. Had golf in his blood from the moment he was born with his father, John, the head professional at Nefyn Golf Club, introducing him to the game at the age of five. Represented Wales at all levels, winning the Welsh Amateur Championship but missing out in the final of the 1996 British Boys Championship to Kenneth Ferrie. Won his European Tour card whilst still an amateur on his first visit to the Tour School in 1998, and turned professional immediately afterwards. Unable to retain his card in his rookie season but bounced back to rejoin the Tour in the 2001 season and maintained his status at the top level for three seasons. A loss of form saw him lose his card at the end of 2003 but returned to the game stronger than ever in 2006 to top the Rankings.
