He was a full time student at the University of Pretoria from 2005 to 2007, having completed a Business Communications and Financial Management Degree. Enjoyed a distinguished amateur career, consistently winning amateur tournaments throughout South Africa. Also represented South Africa at all age levels. Turned professional at the end of 2007, and recorded an impressive fifth place at the co-sanctioned Joburg Open. The same year, he won the Sunshine Tour Rookie of the Year award following ten top 20 finishes.
