Won his maiden European Tour title in the 2001 Cannes Open at Cannes Mougins. It earned him an exemption until the end of the 2003 season which proved timely as a disappointing 2002 saw him finish 144th on the Volvo Order of Merit. Things looked better in 2003 when he finished tied for second in the second event of the year, the Omega Hong Kong Open, but could not quite reproduce the same form later in the season and finished 120th to necessitate a return to the Qualifying School where he came through in 24th place. Highlight of the year came in the final round of The Daily Telegraph Damovo British Masters in June when he won a £35,000 silver Jaguar S-Type 200 for getting his tee shot closest to the hole at the 18th, a four iron to two feet, nine inches. One of many Argentine golfers who emerged from the caddie ranks. He carried bags from the age of nine to supplement the family income. Decided, aged 12, he wanted to become a professional and worked day and night for six years to achieve that goal. Inspired by the feats of Eduardo Romero and Vicenté Fernandez, arrived in Europe in 1989 to play on the Challenge Tour, graduated from the Qualifying School, and came agonisingly close to winning in 1993, losing a play-off to David Gilford for the Portuguese Open. Lay 29th going into the last event on the Challenge Tour in 1998, knowing that only victory would secure his place in the top 15. He won at the fourth hole of a play-off to do just that. Lost card in 2000, finishing one place from safety in 118th on the Volvo Order of Merit. Returned to the Qualifying School and gained 31st card but avoided a return to San Roque at the end of 2001 thanks to his victory in France.
