Guaranteed a return to The European Tour for 2011 by winning the 13th card at the Qualifying School Final Stage, having only played seven events in 2010. That was the third time he graduated from the Qualifying School, having done so in 1989 and 2008, the same year he won the AGF-Allianz Open Côtes d'Armor Bretagne on the European Challenge Tour.

In 2009 he made a third ‘comeback’ to the game’s highest level in a colourful career. Having fully recovered from the ankle break which marred his 2003 season, he enjoyed a superb 2004, the highlight coming when he won the Qatar Masters in March before he took third place in the Deutsche Bank Players’ Championship of Europe and the PGA Championship at Wentworth Club.

It was form which pushed him to the fringes of automatic qualification for Europe’s Ryder Cup Team but, when he came up just short, he once again fulfilled a vital role in Bernhard Langer’s backroom team, as he had done for Sam Torrance at The Belfry in 2002.

Prior to the ankle break, had been forced out of action after injuring himself playing ice hockey with friends. He dislocated a shoulder and incurred broken ribs, an injury which effectively deprived him of the chance to retain his Ryder Cup berth, having become the first Swede to play in the event at The Belfry in 1993.
