Started the season promisingly by finishing equal seventh in the season opening Tobago Plantations Seniors Classic but did not feature again in the top ten until the final event of the season, the Estoril Seniors Tour Championship. Produced one of the most emotional victories of the 2003 season when he overcame Northern Ireland’s Eddie Polland in a sudden-death playoff at the Wallonia Open in Belgium. He only got into the event as a late replacement but that did not stop him defeating the more experienced Polland on the first extra hole. The victory gave him immediate exempt status and he used it to the full, competing in all but two of the remaining 15 events in 2003. An enthusiastic member of the Seniors Tour’s Bible Study group, he also has a reputation as a fine golf teacher.
