The summer of 1995 will go down in the annals of Scottish golf as the one that saw Colin Montgomerie and Sam Torrance go to the wire in the battle to finish Europe's top dog, but another tartan triumph was etched into the record books - Adam's first victory in 11 years on Tour. The Glasgow golfer's £50,000 breakthrough came in the Portuguese Open at Penha Longa when he got up and down from a bunker to beat Ulsterman Darren Clarke in a play-off. Top ten finishes in the Moroccan Open and Air France Cannes Open ensured a highest finish of 63rd in the Volvo Ranking for the former Scottish Boys and Youths international, who turned pro after two and a half years on a golf scholarship in Virgina and has had to pay seven visits to the European Tour Qualifying School.
