Won in his maiden season on the European Tour en route to securing the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award and has won a further two times. Also won the 2007 World Cup alongside Colin Montgomerie.

As an amateur, he holed the winning putt at the 2001 Walker Cup at Sea Island, Georgia, and spent three years adjusting to life in the professional ranks before teaming up with the late Bob Torrance – a switch which helped him become the Challenge Tour’s top player in 2005.

Lost his playing privileges in 2018 after finishing in 130th in the Race to Dubai, but regained his card at Qualifying School Final Stage that same year.

Won the first event of the rescheduled 2020 European Tour season after its resumption due to the global coronavirus pandemic, triumphing at the dual-ranked Austrian Open. Carried his own bag that week on his way to a first victory for six years.
