However, his career was interrupted when he and his wife were involved in a multiple-car crash in Germany in which they were lucky to escape with their lives. His right arm was detached, left dangling by skin and muscle, which kept him out of action for 18 months.

Finished second on the Senior Tour Order of Merit in his debut season in 2013, winning twice.
Known as the Senior Tour’s Iron Man after taking up the gruelling endurance challenges to help with his fitness for golf, he celebrated his first victory by taking part in a half-Ironman championship. To date, Tinning has competed in four Ironman competitions.
