The Staysure Tour today announces a strong start to its 2020 International Schedule, the 29th consecutive season for Europe’s over 50s circuit.
Starting in Austria, the six events which form the initial section, are staged over four European countries in addition to the first two Senior Major Championships of the 2020 season in the United States. Combined, they will give players the opportunity to pick up valuable ranking points as the season-long battle for the John Jacobs Trophy, won by Ryder Cup player Philip Price in 2019, gets under way.
The Murhof Legends – Austrian Senior Open sets the ball rolling with its second successive appearance on the Staysure Tour after its successful debut in 2019, which saw José Cóceres reign supreme. It is set to take place at Golf Club Murhof from May 14-16.
The Jack Nicklaus-designed Golf Club at Harbor Shores, Michigan will host the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship for a fifth time since 2012 from May 21-24. The venue has been the scene of considerable success for Staysure Tour players over the past eight years: Roger Chapman won his first Senior Major there in 2012, Colin Montgomerie clinched his third three years later and Paul Broadhurst produced a record final round bogey-free 63 to win the championship in 2018.
The Senior Italian Open heads to a new location in 2020, as the Argentario Golf Resort & Spa in Tuscany welcomes the Staysure Tour for the first time from May 29-31, before the Arras Open Senior Hauts de France by Jean van de Velde (June 11-13), hosted by The 1999 Ryder Cup player, returns for its second staging at Golf d’Arras.
The following week, June 19-21, the Harry Colt-designed Championship Course at Trevose Golf Club will host the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship, promoted by Champions UK. Frenchman Jean-François Remésy won the inaugural title on the Cornish links last year as the event makes its second appearance on the Staysure Tour in 2020.
The second Senior Major of the campaign, the U.S. Senior Open Championship (June 25-28), takes place at Newport Country Club, venue of the first U.S. Amateur Championship and U.S. Open Championship in 1895, ending a strong opening stretch to the 2020 Staysure Tour season.
Following the success of the initiative last season, the Staysure Tour will continue with a points system to determine the Order of Merit, which will see Price defend the John Jacobs Trophy which he won for the first time in 2019.
