The 15th tournament on the Staysure Tour International Schedule is a brand new one. Here is what you need to know about the Murhof Legends – Austrian Senior Open.
Murhof Group
The Murhof Group is the key player in the Austrian Golf market, running 24 courses throughout the country, with shares in another six courses. This represents about 20% of the Austrian golf market, making them a driving force in the growth and development of Austrian golf at all levels.
The host with the most
The Murhof Legends – Austrian Senior Open will be hosted by Austrian golfing sensation Markus Brier—one of his country’s greatest players. Brier, who turned 50-years-old halfway through last year is competing in his first full season on the Staysure Tour. He is still looking for his first win, but if his past performances are anything to go by, this could be his week.
The Vienna native first won the Challenge Tour at the Austrian Golf Open in 2002, before triumphing on the European Tour for the first time at the BA-CA Golf Open presented by Telekom Austria. He later added a win at the Volvo China Open, but it would be fitting if he were to pick up his first Staysure Tour win in the same country he first lifted trophies on the Challenge Tour and European Tour.
45th country
When the tournament gets under way from September 27-29 at Golfclub Murhof, the nation of Austria will officially become the 45th different country to host a Staysure Tour event. It is an incredible accomplishment for the over-50s circuit, which was founded in 1993. Austria follows Jordan, which became the 44th country to host a Staysure Tour event when the ground-breaking Jordan Mixed Open presented by Ayla.
Golfclub Murhof
Golfclub Murhof is one of the best-known golf courses in Austria, having held prominent amateur tournaments, as well as Challenge Tour and Ladies European Tour events. The Bernhard von Limburger design was built between 1964 and 1973 and has welcomed the world’s finest players over the years through prominent amateur championships. Rory McIlroy, Paul Casey, Colin Montgomerie, Carl Pettersson and Laura Davies have all enjoyed the layout in their amateur years. The beauty of the whole area, and the high quality of the golf course make GolfClub Murhof a memorable golf site.
Castle shot and shoot-out
The competitive spirit is alive and well at the Murhof Legends – Austrian Senior Open, with two exciting elements adding to the week. Follow the Staysure Tour on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for a behind the scenes look at the “Castle Shot”—where players will be hitting from atop the Burg Rabenstein Castle to a target down on the ground. Later in the afternoon on Tuesday, nine Staysure Tour players will take part in the Audi Shoot-out, a €6,500 prize fund competition where the highest score on each hole is eliminated until there is one man standing.
