Vincent, a Bantu motor mechanic in Johannesburg, was to become the best coloured golfer in South Africa. In 1976 he finished fifth in the Dunlop Masters, five strokes behind Gary Player. Indeed Player helped Vincent to play a few events in the United States and started a fund which brought him to the European Tour. Even so, Vincent was unknown in Europe when he shot 69-70-66-67 to win the 1976 French Open at Le Touquet. A back injury subsequently curtailed his regular Tour career.
