Started playing golf at the same time as the rest of his family aged five after his parents played on holiday in South Africa.

Had a celebrated amateur college career in America, where he overcame future Major Champion Jordan Spieth and former World Amateur Number One Patrick Cantlay to win the 2013 NCAA Division I Golf Championship in his sophomore year at the University of Illinois, before progressing through all three stages of the European Tour's Qualifying School later that year.

Claimed two victories in as many appearances in 2015 - his second season on the European Tour - winning the D+D Real Czech Masters before following that up with a triumph at the KLM Open two weeks later.

Added a third victory to his repertoire at the 2016 Made in Denmark, two weeks after finishing fourth in the Rio Olympics, and that strong run of form helped earn a Captain’s Pick from European Ryder Cup Captain Darren Clarke.

Pieters made a huge impression on his Ryder Cup debut at Hazeltine and became Europe's then-best ever Rookie with four points out of five appearances, forming a formidable partnership with Rory McIlroy.

Continued his strong team record when he won the ISPS HANDA Melbourne World Cup of Golf for Belgium, alongside close friend Thomas Detry, in 2018.

Helped host the Belgian Knockout in 2018 and 2019, an event organised and promoted by his own family, as the European Tour returned to the country for the first time in 18 years.

Claimed a fourth European Tour title at the 2019 D+D Real Czech Masters, becoming the first player to win the event on multiple occasions.

Earned his fifth victory at the Portugal Masters, bridging a two-year gap between wins as he won by two strokes at Dom Pedro Victoria. He carried his form into the 2022 season as he won his first Rolex Series title at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
