Started out by searching for golf balls as an 11 year old at Brynhill Golf Club in Wales before enjoying a successful amateur career - the highlight being victory in the Amateur Championship in 1989.

Became the ninth player to have won on all three levels of the European Tour with victory at the 2016 Senior Italian Open, adding to his three European Tour titles and 1992 Challenge Tour victory. Added the 2017 Farmfoods European Senior Masters and 2018 WINSTONgolf Senior Open titles to his trophy cabinet.

Became the first Welsh winner of The Senior Open presented by Rolex since Brian Huggett in 1998 when he triumphed at Sunningdale in 2021, holding off the challenge of Miguel Angel Jiménez to win his first Senior Major.
