Made a marvellous start to his European Seniors Tour career when he won the 2001 TEMES Seniors Open on what was just his sixth start but has struggled to find that sort of form since. During 2003, his best finish came at the Royal Westmoreland Barbados Open where he shared 14th place. Enjoyed considerable success in his homeland having won in excess of 100 events during a successful career on the Tartan Tour. He has also won the European and British Club Professionals Championships and played in eight successive appearances in the PGA Cup has accumulated more points than all but compatriot David Huish. Enjoyed huge success as a golfer but his low point came while leading the field at the 1991 European Club Professionals Championship at Broekpolder in Holland his leg gave way. It transpired he had broken his tibia and fibula and required ten months recuperation before being able to set foot on a golf course again. A few months later a similar fate befell Richard Boxall in the Open Golf Championship at Royal Birkdale and Weir was one of the first people to contact the Englishman to commiserate. Served his PGA apprenticeship before becoming the club professional at Cowal in 1979. He still holds the job 25 years later.
