Son of Noel McFarlane, the former Manchester United footballer, he enjoys doing crosswords whilst travelling the Tour. Won the Deutsche Bank - SAP Open TPC of Europe in 1997 to gain a precious five-year exemption but in 2001 turned his attention to commentating with the Sky Sports on-course team. Only played a handful of events in 2001, the last of which was The Celtic Manor Resort Wales Open.
