    After concentrating on the US PGA Tour for 11 years, he returned to full Membership of The European Tour in 2009 and came close to adding to his four European Tour titles with three top threes, including joint second to Tiger Woods in the WGC – Bridgestone Invitational and reaching the semi-final of the Volvo World Match Play Championship. Finally got his reward for a fine season by winning the Australian PGA Championshipa and the Nedbank Golf Challenge in the last month of the decade. In his early career, he played full-time in Europe between turning professional in 1992 and 1998 and won four titles, including three victories in 1996 when he finished third on the Order of Merit. However that season ended prematurely, in October, when he suffered a broken sternum and facial injuries in a car crash in Spain. Was presented with the Ben Hogan Award in 2001 by the Golf Writers Association of America for the way he recovered from that accident as he went on to win four times on the US PGA Tour and played on five Presidents Cup teams. In 2005, became first player to win Australian "Triple Crown"of the Australian Open, PGA and Masters in consecutive weeks. Came 21st in The Race to Dubai Rankings in 2009, helped by a joint 13th place finish at the Dubai World Championship. Father, Don, was a professional in Leeds before emigrating to Melbourne.
