    Has eight European Tour titles, most famously the 1999 Open Championship, where he came from ten shots behind to win the Claret Jug at Carnoustie.

    Played in the 1999 and 2012 editions of The Ryder Cup, the latter following a renaissance that saw him win three times in two years.

    Won on home soil for the first time since The Open Championship when he won the Scottish Senior Open in his first year on the Staysure Tour in 2019. Went on to secure the Rookie of the Year award that year after finishing 11th on the Order of Merit.

    Awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2013.

    Born in Aberdeen, he turned pro in 1986 and played his first season on the European Tour in 1992.

    Actively involved in promoting the game at grassroots through the Paul Lawrie Foundation.

    Appointed to the Board of the European Tour group as a Non-Executive Director in 2022.
