Born in San Antonio, Texas, he helped lead Augusta State University to NCAA Division I Golf Championships in 2010 and 2011 before turning professional the same year.

Confirmed his talent by becoming the youngest player to win a World Golf Championships event at the 2014 WGC-Cadillac Championship, aged 23 years and 216 days.

He claimed his second World Golf Championships victory at the WGC- Mexico Championship at Chapultepec Golf Club in 2020, emerging victorious from a thrilling battle with his compatriot Bryson DeChambeau. Went on to finish third on the Race to Dubai Rankings that season.

Nicknamed 'Captain America' due to his exploits in The Ryder Cup, having been central to the USA's victory in 2016 and beating Rory McIlroy in a memorable singles showdown. That followed an entertaining performance in 2014 at Gleneagles when he famously put his finger to his lips to 'shush' the European fans.

Won his maiden Major Championship at the 2018 Masters Tournament, a victory which helped him finish second in the Race to Dubai Rankings presented by Rolex, behind The Open Champion Francesco Molinari. Represented the United States at the Ryder Cup for a third time at Le Golf National.

Awarded Honorary Life Membership of the DP World Tour at the start of the 2019 season after his Masters victory the previous year.

Has won nine times on the PGA TOUR, most recently at the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open.
