Attended college and studied for a pharmacy degree for three years. Held jobs in public service and the insurance industry before turning professional. During his days on The European Tour, Ratcliffe won twice - in the 1978 Belgian Open and the 1987 Benson and Hedges International Open, when he eagled the 72nd hole for a memorable victory. Became the second player to pass €1m in career earnings on the Senior Tour.
