The 2023/24 campaign is his sixth full season on the DP World Tour having first secured his playing privileges in 2017. In the early days of his career he won three times on the EuroPro Tour, two of which elevated him onto the European Challenge Tour in 2015 courtesy of a fourth-place finish on the money list.

In his first full season on the Challenge Tour Armitage finished second in Ireland before he claimed an emotional victory at the Foshan Open in China late in the season to seal his place on the DP World Tour. He would close with a five-under 67 for a one-shot victory over Alexander Knappe and Matthieu Pavon, also in the top 10 were Ryan Fox and Thomas Detry, and he would end the season in 11th place on the money list.

He would struggle in his first season on the DP World Tour but he then kickstarted his career with a brilliant performance at the end-of-season Qualifying School in Spain in 2019. There he erased the memory of a disappointing season on the Challenge Tour to share 13th spot after six rounds at Infinitum.

Two months later at the South African Open he would birdie the 72nd hole to grab third place behind Branden Grace and Louis Oosthuizen – he had only been able to play at Randpark GC after borrowing the air fare from fellow player Robert Rock. He would finish the year in 57th place on the Race to Dubai.

In May 2021 he became a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ holder after breaking the record for the 'farthest golf shot caught in a moving car'. Armitage drove a ball 303 yards which was caught in a BMW M8 Convertible by BMW touring car driver Paul O'Neill.

A month later, he grabbed his first victory on the DP World Tour when he claimed a two-shot success at the Porsche European Open. He began the third and final round four shots adrift of the leaders but then reached the turn in 29 at the Green Eagle Golf Courses in Hamburg and eventually signed for a seven-under 65.

The emotional victory, having lost his mother Jean to cancer when still a teenager, also gave him a place at the following week's US Open at Torrey Pines.

In 2023 he came close to adding a second victory at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship when a closing 66 at Carnoustie left him in a share of second place, with Fox and Matthew Southgate, and three shots behind the winner Matt Fitzpatrick.
