Missed a large part of the summer and autumn of 2012 with a recurrence of the injury, and will have a medical extension for his first three events of 2013. Missed almost the entire 2009 season but returned on the Challenge Tour in 2010 and continued to improve in 2011 with three top tens to finish 71st in the Challenge Tour Rankings. Introduced to the game by his father and had a successful amateur career, winning the Spanish Amateur International Championship and the French Amateur International Championship in 2006, the same year he represented Continental Europe in the St Andrews Trophy. A member of the same golf club as Sergio Garcia in Castellón, Spain, but no relation, and through that connection became friends with American star Anthony Kim. Counts finishing 24th as an amateur in the 2006 Andalucía Open de España on The European Tour as the highlight of his career so far.
