A bright future was predicted for the Corkman after he played in the 1987 Walker Cup. However, lost card in 1994 and underwent a lengthy spell in the doldrums. Played in Canadian Qualifying School last year, finishing ninth. Hadn't earned "one penny" in 1998 when received invite to Murphy's Irish Open. Finished third to effectively regain his playing privileges in the space of one week.
