Has spent most of his time competing in the United States after getting his US PGA Tour card at the end of 2004 and came close to making his winning breakthrough in 2006 when he held a one stroke lead with two holes to play in the Bay Hill Invitational but three putts from 3 ½ feet on the penultimate hole cost him the title. One of the most consistent players on The European Tour, finally achieved his maiden victory in his 158th start when he won The 2003 British Masters. But only just managed to defend his title with the help of painkilling injections as he was suffering a back injury at the time. That was his last tournament for three months as he finally succumbed to a bulging disc and underwent surgery. Taught by David Ridley at Coxmoor GC. Joined management team, run by snooker promoter Barry Hearn in 1999. Was ranked number one tennis player in Nottinghamshire at age 13. Wife Jacqueline was a national gymnast.
