    First touring professional to emerge from Trinidad and Tobago where his grandmother was a two-time national champion. However wife Jodi, a former air hostess he met on a flight between tournaments, is Canadian and he resides in Calgary, so he took up Canadian citizenship in 2004. Played on The European Tour from 1993 to 1997, winning the 1994 Open V33 Grand Lyon and the 1996 Benson and Hedges International Open before becoming a member of the US PGA Tour in 1997. Has won four times in America, including a stunning six shot victory in The Players Championship at Sawgrass in March 2006, and most recently in the Children’s Miracle Network Classic in 2009. Younger brother Robert has competed alongside him in four WGC – World Cups. Will be a torch bearer for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Part owner of several restaurants in Calgary, Alberta, including the Vintage Chophouse & Tavern. Started the Stephen Ames Foundation in 2005 to provide funding for junior golf programs and other children's initiatives in Canada and Trinidad and Tobago. Hosts the annual Stephen Ames Cup, both a tournament and cultural exchange between teams of male and female junior golfers from each country.
