Norwegians have traditionally gone to Sweden to further their golf careers, but Oyvind, who comes from Sarpsborg, south east of Oslo, could be the exception. He was introduced to golf at the age of six by his father,a research chemist,who was also chairman of the adjacent Borregard club where his son was a scratch player at 14, the year he won the Trophy Topolino at San Remo.He went on to become Doug Sanders European Junior champion and played at Boys,Youths and Senior level for his country which he represented three times in the Eisenhower Trophy.He spent 18 months on a golf scholarship at the New Mexico Military Institute at Roswell,and after doing national service in the Norwegian Army sports troop,turned professional in 1993, taking third place at his first Qualifying School 12 months later
