The South African was grateful for the decision to pay his £2000 to become an Affiliate Member of the European Tour in January, just before the season-opening Alfred Dunhill Championship. Tied second in the Benson and Hedges Malaysian Open in February to go a long way towards securing the European Tour card which he held for one season in 1992. Finished the year in 100th position on the Volvo Order of Merit. In 1997 the big man with the deft touch enjoyed an outstanding rookie season on the Davidoff Tour, winning twice to finish eighth on the Order of Merit. Has won nine times on the Southern African Tour, the most recent being in the Emfuleni Classic last September.
