Had not played as much in 2002 as in previous years after the birth of his first child, Lars, but proved he was back with a bang with a superb performance at Gardagolf near Brescia. Became the first European to win the US PGA Tour Qualifying School finals last November. Claimed his first European Tour victory in 1995 when he won the Canon European Masters before, in 1998, proving himself to be a superb front-runner in the Smurfit European Open at The K Club, blowing away a world-class field to win by ten strokes - the biggest on the Tour that year. Third victory followed in January 2000 when he won the Mercedes-Benz South African Open and he almost added the 2001 Victor Chandler British Masters title to his tally when he tied with David Howell, Robert Karlsson and Thomas Levet to force a play-off but lost out to Levet at the fourth extra hole. In his amateur days he enrolled at the Gothenburg golf school as a 16 year old five handicapper. Swedish Boys Champion in 1988, and British Youths champion two years later, then helped Sweden to win the Eisenhower Trophy by 12 strokes ahead of the United States in New Zealand where he won the individual title.
