Proved that age is no barrier to Seniors Tour success when he won the 2000 Beko Classic almost six months after his 63rd birthday. It was his tenth Seniors Tour victory. Always a big occasion golfer, he won 16 times during a highly successful European Tour career, and represented Great Britain and Ireland in six Ryder Cup Matches, his most memorable contribution coming when he holed a four foot putt to halve his singles against Billy Casper in the 1969 Match at Royal Birkdale. That left that year’s Ryder Cup to be decided by the last match on the course, the famous contest between Tony Jacklin and Jack Nicklaus where, in one of the most sporting gestures ever seen in golf, Nicklaus conceded Jacklin a three-foot putt to set up the first tie in Ryder Cup history. His best year came in 1968 when he won three times on The European Tour on his way to heading the Order of Merit. He also played for Wales on nine occasions in the World Cup. Now spends a great deal of his time hosting corporate golf days. Is also a successful golf course architect.
