Golf is in the blood, his grandfather and parents having helped found his local club. A top Swedish amateur, won the European Individual Amateur Championship at 19 and dominated the 1993 Challenge Tour season, winning three times. However, a wrist injury and back problems caused concern in 1995. Also started putting left hand below right to help counter the ‘yips’. Lost card in 1998 and played the Challenge Tour from then until finishing seventh on the Rankings in 2001 after victory in the Talma Finnish Challenge. In 1999, he finished ranked 16th to miss a card by one place and by less than €80. Four missed cuts in a row at the end of the 2002 season caused a little concern but the good work done in the middle of the year was enough to secure him 111th place on the European Tour Order of Merit, followed by a 109th place finish in 2003. Improved again in 2004 to 84th, assisted by a tie for third in the Algarve Open de Portugal Caixa Geral de Depositos. Retained his playing privileges for a further two seasons, but after a slip down the Order of Merit in 2007 he decided to return to the Challenge Tour. The decision paid handsome dividends, as he returned to the winner’s enclosure after a seven-year absence with victory at the Trophée du Golf Club de Genève. Surged through the field on the final day after shooting a stunning round of 63, the lowest of his career, before prevailing over Wil Besseling of The Netherlands and Brazilian Alexandre Rocha in a play-off. His €24,400 winner’s cheque propelled him into the top ten of the Rankings and ensured him a return to The European Tour.
