Norman won once on The European Tour at the 1972 Italian Open but the highlight of his career came when he defeated the great Lee Trevino 2 and 1 in the second series of singles in The 1975 Ryder Cup Matches. The Scot was a Tour professional for most of the 1970s but was forced to become a club professional after succumbing to back problems. He worked at Sandy Lane between 1978 and 1982 but then moved to the Royal Guernsey Club where he remains to this day. Norman turned 50 in 1997 but to date has not produced a better finish than his third place at the Manadens Affarer Seniors Open during his rookie season. During 2001 Wood missed six cuts in ten starts on his way to finishing 82nd on the Order of Merit. His best performance came when he finished tied for 38th at the Scottish Seniors Open at The Roxburghe. Norman is a keen birdwatcher and can often be seen using his binoculars to watch local wildlife after his rounds. During the 2000 Tui Championships in Germany he was fortunate enough to spot a pair of golden eagles flying over the Fleesensee venue.
