A four-time winner on the European Seniors Tour, he came close to winning more silverware in 2004 but finished outright second in back to back weeks in the Ryder Cup Wales Seniors Open and the Nigel Mansell Sunseeker International Classic. Came close again when he was fourth at the 2005 Bad Ragaz PGA Seniors Open ahead of finishing 32nd in that year’s Order of Merit. ‘The Oak’, as he is known, is renowned for bursts of low scoring. He won his maiden Seniors Tour title by six shots at the 1999 MDIS & Partners Festival of Golf and 12 months later, set a then Seniors Tour 54 hole scoring record in relation to par when he posted a 17 under par total of 196 while winning the De Vere Hotels Seniors Classic at Ferndown. Later, he also went on to win the Energis Senior Masters and the Scottish Seniors Open, both in 2001. Played college golf at the University of Florida where he was a team-mate of Bob Murphy and Steve Melnyk. Turned professional in 1970 and toured in Europe, Asia, Canada and America until hanging up his clubs in 1976. He spent ten years as a hotel liquidator and nine as a furniture store manager before returning to professional golf in 1996. His brother Pete won The 2004 Senior British Open Championship presented by MasterCard.
