The Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex returns to Royal Porthcawl Golf Club from July 27-30 and applications are now open for volunteers who wish to assist at the European Senior Tour’s most prestigious event.
Golf clubs from around the United Kingdom are invited to apply to marshal dedicated holes on the Welsh links throughout the tournament week, and individuals are also required for a number of roles. Interested golf clubs and individuals are asked to apply to Chief Marshal Graham Wallage for an application form by email atgswallage@yahoo.co.uk.
The roles for individuals include static and mobile marshals, walking scorers, board carriers, leaderboard, main score board and grandstand marshals. Volunteers must commit to a minimum of three Championship days and may be expected to carry out any of the above duties.
Volunteers working a minimum of three Championship days will receive branded items of clothing to wear on duty, refreshments, Championship accreditation and a voucher to play a round of golf at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club.
The Senior Open Championship was last held at Royal Porthcawl in 2014, where Bernhard Langer won by a record 13 strokes. He will return to the Welsh links in a bid to reclaim the coveted Senior Claret Jug from last year’s winner Paul Broadhurst.
Also set to tee it up are Ryder Cup stars Fred Couples, Colin Montgomerie and Tom Watson, with Paul McGinley and José María Olazábal also in line to make their championship debuts.
