Former Scottish Senior Open champion Glenn Ralph led the 28 players who sealed their places in this week’s Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex, following Monday qualifying at three venues in Scotland.
Ralph carded a level par 73 to head the ten qualifiers from Kilmarnock (Barassie), finishing one shot clear of Japan’s Isao Aoki. Dick Mast, winner of the 2012 Senior Tour qualifying school, was among those to secure their place in the field for the Championship, which begins at Turnberry on Thursday.
At Dundonald Links, seven-time Senior Tour champion Denis O’Sullivan of Ireland fired a two under par 70 to finish four shots clear of American pair Darrell Kestner and Tom Eubank, and English pair Stephen East and Roger Roper, with nine players qualifying in total.
At Turnberry’s Kintyre Course, American Danny Edwards posted a one under par 71 to finish one shot clear of England’s Steve Cipa, leading the nine qualifiers which included former European Open Champion Andrew Murray.
The 28 qualifiers will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of American Pete Oakley, who came through qualifying before winning The Senior Open Championship at Royal Portrush in 2004. They will join a field that includes Tom Watson, Greg Norman, Bernhard Langer and Fred Couples.
