Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club's Ramli Sulaiman and Rene Larsen of Jumeirah Golf Estates triumphed in the Amateur and Professional Qualifier, held at Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club, securing spots in the inaugural Sharjah Senior Golf Masters.
Sulaiman was the overall winner after carding 76 while Larsen grabbed the second spot by scoring 78, winning in a play-off from John Mills, with Larsen securing a birdie three on the first play-off hole.
The two local golfers will brush shoulders with the European Senior Tour's elite in the Sharjah Senior Golf Masters presented by Shurooq fromMarch 16-18 at Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club.
Sulaiman enjoyed the occasion and is eager to play with the European Senior Tour’s big names. "As a member of the Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club I am very excited to have the first Tour event here in Sharjah. To be able to have this opportunity to play in the qualifier is a wonderful thing. Golf is constantly growing in this region and the Sharjah golf course has the quality to host the professional players from Europe. We thank Shurooq for this great experience and I look forward to next month's event."
Martin Duff, Director of Golf at Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club, believes that it was an event that was enjoyed by all. "The players seem to have enjoyed themselves," he said. "The weather was a bit overcast but we didn't face heavy rain so we were lucky. The two winners thoroughly deserved the win and they were in good form.
"This event is the beginning of something great and our vision is to establish this event in Sharjah and I am positive that we can only go up from there. We aim to spread the game of golf in the Sharjah community and we are proud to be able to host this European Senior Tour event."
