Open de Portugal at Morgado Golf Resort day four - what they said

Matt Wallace secured his maiden European Tour victory at the Open de Portugal at Morgado Golf Resort, but behind him a host of players enjoyed career-best finishes.

Julian Suri

Here, we take a look at what some of them had to say.

Julian Suri (65, -18)

"I got off to a great start. The key thing for me was that yesterday after I finished, I had a tough putting day and I put in about two hours of work on the green last night. Then I came in about three hours before my tee time today to hit some putts.

"I was really starting to trust my putting by the end of that practise time and it just carried over into my front nine.

"I birdied the first three, made a great birdie on five, and then got another on nine. From there I was rolling and really got the juices flowing.

"Putting was the difference for me today. It definitely wasn’t my best ball striking day. Being able to trust my stroke inside ten or 12 feet, because out here you will have so many of those putts, that definitely made the difference.

"It’s been a long time coming. I was home for about six weeks back in the States working with a coach – Dan Carragher – and he gave me a pep talk last night, telling me to trust my putting, the same with my brother back home."

Matthieu Pavon (69, -16)

"It was a pretty good round I played. I didn't hole that many putts but it was okay. I made a good birdie on the ninth and tenth but after the back nine was a little bit quiet. I'm pretty happy for this week.
"Everything was pretty good - this is the week I was waiting for so now I'm going to go forward and try to keep the same feelings.
"When I was on the Alps Tour I won a tournament from five back on the last day. I started well, I had my chance, but too quiet with my putter on the back nine."
