After carding a five under par 67 to move into contention at the Fubon Senior Open in Taiwan, Andrew Murray set a challenge for his son Tom, who is playing in Qualifying School Second Stage this week, saying “beat my score today and you’ll be fine”.
The older of the Murrays put in a sterling performance at Miramar Golf and Country Club to move to within a shot of the lead held by Tim Thelen and Peter Dahlberg thanks to a bogey-free round which included a run of three successive birdies.
And with his son attempting to break on to The European Tour via Qualifying School, Murray challenged his son to go better than the 67 he shot and move right back into the mix at Second Stage in Lumine Golf & Beach Club.
“I have been texting Tom over there at Q-School and when I finished my round in Taiwan I told, you’d better go and beat my score now son!
“He started really well this week with a 68 but unfortunately he went backwards a bit on the second day with a 74 but here’s hoping he can finish the job on the final two days.
“Of course, Tom is delighted I am doing well over here but it is his turn now and hopefully he can do the job over there and make it into Final Stage. He has been working hard.”
