Mazda has been named as Official Courtesy Car to the Handa Irish Senior Open presented by Fáilte Ireland which will be played at Carton House in Kildare from June 11-13.
The fleet of newly launched Mazda6 cars will transport players, officials and VIPS throughout the tournament week in a similar role to that provided at last year’s Senior Open Championship presented by MasterCard at Sunningdale.
Among the leading Senior Tour players to use the fleet of Mazda cars will be defending champion Ian Woosnam, who won the title at Ballybunion Golf Club last year following a play-off with American Bob Boyd after overturning a six shot deficit going into the final round.
The 14th edition of the Handa Irish Senior Open presented by Fáilte Ireland will be played at Carton House over the Montgomerie Course for the first time this year, a venue which previously hosted the Irish Open on the European Tour in 2005 and 2006.
Notable winners over previous years include Tommy Horton, Carl Mason and former Ryder Cup stars Costantino Rocca and Sam Torrance.
David McGonigle, Managing Director of Mazda Motor Ireland, said “We are delighted to be involved in one of the most prestigious events in the Irish sporting calendar. Mazda has a renowned reputation for building high-quality, reliable cars, with stunning driving performance. Our brand is a perfect fit with illustrious history of the Irish Senior Open. We trust the players and VIP’s will enjoy the enhanced refinement and comfort of the newly launched Mazda6.”
Andy Stubbs, Managing Director of the European Senior Tour, said: “We are extremely grateful to Mazda for the support they are providing and their courtesy cars will play an integral part in the smooth running of the tournament. We all look forward to experiencing the Mazda6 in Kildare.”
In supporting the event Mazda joins Fáilte Ireland, which has been a sponsor since the inception of the Irish Senior Open at St Margarets Golf Club in 1997, and the Handa organisation, the new title sponsor for 2010. Dr Haruhisa Handa, is Chairman of the International Sports Promotion Society (ISPS) and a Patron and International Ambassador to the European Senior Tour.
