An exciting addition to this year’s Philips PFA Golf Classic at the Marriott Meon Valley Hotel and Country Club, Wednesday 27th May to Sunday 31st May, is the inclusion of free coaching clinics.
The clinics will provide youngsters with the opportunity to improve their skills in football, golf and tennis with tips from qualified coaches, or just to try their hand at something new.
“The Philips PFA Golf Classic clinics will be a fun, sports based day out, and they will provide an enjoyable learning experience for all those taking part” said Garry Nelson of the PFA.
The football clinics, sponsored by adidas, will contain structured, skill based activities such as shooting, passing and dribbling. Already involved in the sessions, in conjunction with the PFA’s Football in the Community Schemes, are groups from Fulham FC, Reading FC, Crystal Palace FC, Swindon Town FC, Bristol FC, Farnborough FC and Brighton and Hove Albion FC.
In between the Community Scheme sessions the clinics will be open to anyone who wants to join in. Just turn up dressed suitably - the equipment, and expertise is already provided. An added bonus for those attending on Sunday 31st May will be the presence of the exciting adidas Predator team.
The golf and tennis clinics will be conducted in association with Wilson who will provide both the equipment and technical advice to help maximise participants potential. Open all day to the general public, the latest Wilson Fat Shaft range of clubs can be tried and tested on the driving range, and serves and volleys perfected on the tennis courts using Wilson’s state of the art racquets.
All this on top of the captivating golf available for all to watch. Sixty of the leading European Seniors Tour professionals will play over the superb 18 hole championship course at Marriott Meon Valley for £100,000 prize money, with some of the finest stars - past and present - in professional football, who play for a charity purse of £50,000.
Throughout the event some of the stars playing in the Philips PFA Players Championship may drop by the clinics to answer questions, pass on advice, or even join in the action. Those attending the clinics could find themselves chipping golf balls with or shooting goals against Matt Le Tissier, Gary Speed, John Hartson, Trevor Brooking, Andy Gray or Ian St John!
