Magnus P Atlevi and Barry Lane share fifth place on five under par after the second round of the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, three strokes behind clubhouse leader Scott McCarron.
Atlevi, who recovered from a three over par start at Harbor Shores Golf Club on Thursday, carded a two under par second round of 69 to join Lane, Peter Lonard and Joey Sindelar on five under par after 36 holes.
“I wasn’t hitting my irons as good as I did yesterday,” said Atlevi. “The last 12 holes yesterday was magical.
“I kept my patience and kept plugging along. I found myself being nervous for no reason after not playing for some time.
“I got my revenge on the first three holes today after the start I had yesterday. I’m pleased that I can relax now and look forward to the weekend.”
Sharing the 18-hole lead, Lane moved to six under par after a birdie on the par four sixth hole, but dropped two shots after bogeys on the seventh and eighth holes.
The 1993 Ryder Cup player then birdied the ninth and recovered from a bogey on the 13thwith his third birdie of the day on the 14thhole, eventually settling for a level par round of 71.
“I didn’t play quite as well as yesterday, there were just a couple of bad shots in there,” said Lane. “There were no disasters, which is good. Hopefully I can have a nice day.
“It was very different out there today. Yesterday we had holes where we’d take driver, nine iron and today it was driver, four iron. There were some tough pins, especially if you don’t hit the right areas on the greens.”
David Frost, Colin Montgomerie and Miguel Angel Jiménez share 14thplace on three under par after the completion of the morning session in Michigan.
