The European Challenge Tour can confirm that the Turkish Airlines Challenge hosted by Carya Golf Club will definitely go head, after airline restrictions across Europe were lifted.
Following the postponement of last week’s Moroccan Golf Classic, the European season gets underway next week when the Challenge Tour touches down in Turkey for the first time in 12 years.
The 1998 Turkish Open was won by Thomas Nielsen, a year after Wales’ Bradley Dredge – who would subsequently go on to capture two European Tour titles – took the title.
The inaugural edition of the Turkish Airlines Challenge will be held at Carya Golf Club, designed by five-times Open champion Peter Thompson in tandem with his partners Ross Perrett and Tim Lobb.
Alain de Soultrait, Director of the Challenge Tour, said: “It was obviously disappointing that we had to postpone the Moroccan Golf Classic, but the situation was out of our control and we are confident of arranging the tournament at a later date this year.
“We are delighted to confirm that the Turkish Airlines Challenge will definitely be going ahead at the magnificent Carya Golf Club in the Antalya Region, where golf is becoming increasingly popular. It should be a great start to the six-month summer season in Europe, culminating in the Apulia San Domenico Grand Final in Italy at the end of October.”
