Fantasy Three to Watch in Sweden

After scouring the form books once again, our stats guru has come up with the following three players you might wish to consider for your Fantasy sides this week at the Nordea Masters...

Rikard Karlberg

Pick of the favourites: Lee Westwood

Lee Westwood and son Sam

A three-time Nordea Masters winner – with his most recent victory in 2012 coming at this week’s host course, Bro Hof Slott GC – Lee Westwood will be top of the list for most people when it comes to making a pick for this event. The Englishman will be aiming to become the ninth player in European Tour history to win the same tournament on four or more occasions and he arrives with some promising form under his belt, too. After finishing tied second at the Masters in early April, ‘Westy’ finished tied tenth in Ireland and was in contention to win last week’s BMW PGA Championship before falling away to a tied 15th finish following a 76 on the final day at Wentworth.

The 23-time European Tour winner’s record in the Nordea Masters is astonishing: eight appearances, three wins, one runner-up spot and a further three top 20 finishes so don’t be surprised to this experienced campaigner top of the board come Sunday evening.

The Form Horse: Rikard Karlberg

Who better to select as form horse than the player who shot the lowest score in the last European Tour round. Rikard Karlberg made a hole in one and seven birdies in a final round 65 at Wentworth to finish solo second. Add that to a top ten in Ireland the week before and five straight top 25 finishes and it’s easy to see why we’re picking the Swede. Last time the Nordea Masters was at Bro Hof, Karlberg was the only player to break 70 in every round, en route to a fourth place finish. With good form and home support, expect to see the 29 year old high on the leaderboard this week.

The Wildcard: Bradley Dredge

Bradley Dredge

At 42 years old Bradley Dredge is enjoying a return to form in recent months. A missed cut at Wentworth was the first weekend off for the Welshman in 11 events on Tour, a stretch that includes six top 20 finishes including a runner-up finish in Ireland two weeks ago. Dredge is one of only two players on Tour to rank inside the top ten in Stroke Average and Putts per Round this season (as well as Henrik Stenson). He has two top ten finishes at the Nordea Masters and holds the record for the lowest 36 and 54 hole scores at the event recorded during a strong performance back in 2005.
