INTERESTING FACTS

The Santo da Serra GC will be playing host to the 11th Madeira Island Open. In that time the event has witnessed four Swedish triumphs - Mats Lanner (1994, 98), Jarmo Sandelin (1995) and Niclas Fasth (2000). Swedish golf has come a long way since Ove Sellberg became their first winner on The European Tour International Schedule in 1986 at the Epson Match Play. Seventeen years on, 19 golfers from that country have entered the winners circle, totalling 49 wins in all. The Robert Trent Jones Senior-designed course being used this week has always provided a tough test. In the six previous editions of the tournament at Santo da Serra, the average cut score is +2.5.
