Last year’s Credit Suisse Challenge saw former Ryder Cup player Peter Baker of England become the first player to take the title twice since its inception in 2000. Two years previously at Wylihof Golf Club in Luterbach, Switzerland, Baker won the title with a final round of 67, and history repeated itself in 2009 as the same score again carried the Englishman to a one stroke victory over Austrian Florian Praegant. In the process, Baker became the first player over the age of 40 to win on the Challenge Tour since he himself won on his 40th birthday at the ALLIANZ Open Cotes d’Armor Bretagne in 2007. It was a closely contested battle with Praegant challenging all the way, but Baker made his experience count as he managed to keep his nose in front with birdies on the 15th and 17th holes before making a crucial 12 foot par putt on the last to deny his playing partner. Sandwiched between Baker’s brace of wins came victory for Spaniard Rafael Cabrera-Bello, who would later rise to prominence when carding a round of 60 on the final day to win last year’s Austrian Golf Open. This year the event will be played for the first time at Golf Sempachersee in Hildisrieden, Switzerland.
