Genesis Scottish Open - Day two digest

Everything you need to know from day two of the second Rolex Series event of the season.

Ludvig Åberg edged ahead, Antoine Rozner kept his card clean, Alejandro del Rey made a rapid start and the home fans were given plenty of reasons to cheer on day two at the Genesis Scottish Open.

Here is everything you need to know from Friday at The Renaissance Club.

Åberg leads the way

Åberg carded a second consecutive round of 64 to take a one-shot lead into the weekend. The Swede went bogey-free on day two to get to 12 under as he looks for a maiden Rolex Series title to continue his remarkable rise in the game. Frenchman Rozner stayed bogey-free for the week with a 64 of his own to sit at 11 under, a shot clear of Italian Matteo Manassero, who carded a 63, and South Korea's Sungjae Im who carded a 67. Defending champion Rory McIlroy, American pair Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala, Spaniard Del Rey, Dane Rasmus Højgaard and Swede Alex Noren were then at nine under.

Rozner stays blemish-free

With little or no wind so far, Renaissance has not been able to show its teeth and scoring has been good but just one player has played 36 holes without a bogey - Rozner. The Frenchman made five birdies on day one and an eagle and four more on Friday to get into the final group on Saturday. "I got some good breaks to be very honest with you out there," he said. "Avoiding some traps at times when it should have been in the traps. But it's golf, it's links golf. You have to get away with bad shots and sometimes you will not get away with good shots. So you've got to be ready for that. Hopefully everything will go like this for the weekend and hopefully I can have two more good scores."

You sixy thing

There are fast starts and there are fast starts. Del Rey was the last man into the field this week but he is certainly making the most of his chance and started his second round with SIX consecutive birdies. He will head into the weekend at nine under after a 62.

A Friday roar

You expect the big cheers to come over the weekend but when Bob is on home soil, the fans get started early. The Stadium Hole sixth is a real cauldron and when Robert MacIntyre birdied it on Friday, the crowd reaction was a electric. "It was brilliant," he said. "I'm trying to stay as even keel as I can, it's difficult at times. But when I was walking up, I hit a reasonably decent shot and the crowd is going wild and chanting me all the way up to the green. When I holed the putt it was almost a relief for me but also a goosebump moment when the crowd erupted. It's always good to have the support and then doing half-decent." Listen to that noise.

Few things finer........

......than a driver off the deck. "I knew three wood wasn't going to get there and if I hit three wood short, it's a tough spot to get a good pitch angle from," said Adam Scott. "So I thought I may as well go for it. Fortune favoured me on that one and I flushed it. Had a nice flight. Looked good. It's that one swing that brings you back tomorrow." Soak this in.
