The Tour Players Foundation (TPF) – the charitable arm of The European Tour – is leading an exciting charitable initiative at the Dubai World Championship, presented by DP World.
During the four tournament rounds of the final event on The 2011 Race to Dubai, the Foundation will donate a pre-determined amount of the local United Arab Emirates currency – dirhams – to charity for every birdie, eagle or albatross made over the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
‘The Tour Players Foundation – Birdie Pledge’ will ensure that 100 dirhams for each birdie, 200 dirhams for every eagle and 500 dirhams for every albatross pledged will be donated to the TPF’s chosen charity in Dubai, the Special Needs Families Group (SNF Group).
A total of 825 birdies and 23 eagles were recorded at last year’s Dubai World Championship, presented by DP World. A similar return this week would allow the initiative to net in the region of 85,000 dirhams (approx. US $25,000) for the SNF Group.
The SNF Group specialises in providing holistic support to young adults with special needs through personalised and professional care at the SNF Development Centre, situated in the Al Kamara area of Dubai.
The TPF has supported the SNF Group since 2009, enabling it to develop and expand its care of the special needs children of Dubai. The support of organisation such as the SNFG is a key objective of the TPF in their desire to give back in regions which host European Tour events.
