Ian Woosnam won his second Volvo PGA Championship from a field of the highest quality, scoring a final round of 70 to win by two strokes from Darren Clarke, Ernie Els, and Nick Faldo. Record crowds and record prize money from Volvo on the tenth anniversary of their sponsorship of the championship combined to produce an enthralling week of golf. "This is one of the great championships of the world," said Woosnam. "To win from such a strong field is always satisfying, and to win on a tough course like this makes it even better."
