Thomas Björn clinched a dramatic victory over Colin Montgomerie at the fifth extra-hole to join four other European Tour Members in the last 16 of the WGC - Andersen Consulting Match Play Championship at La Costa.

Darren Clarke took on the best in the world and won. An outstanding week culminated in the Ulsterman beating the World Number One Tiger Woods by 4 and 3 to win the first World Golf Championship of the year – The Andersen Consulting Matchplay.
Eight European Tour members have so far successfully progressed to the second round of the World Golf Championships – Andersen Consulting Match Play at La Costa, California with Colin Montgomerie and Thomas Bjorn still to complete their first round matches after play was suspended due to torrential rain.
14 European Tour Members - Thomas Björn, Angel Cabrera, Michael Campbell, Darren Clarke, Ernie Els, Sergio Garcia, Retief Goosen, Padraig Harrington, Miguel Angel Jiménez, Bernhard Langer, Paul Lawrie, Colin Montgomerie, José Maria Olazábal and Lee Westwood - will lead the European Tour challenge in the World Golf Championships- Andersen Consulting
On another enthralling day's play at La Costa, a trio of European Tour members Paul Lawrie, Miguel Angel Jiménez, and Darren Clarke - found success in the third round of the Andersen Consulting Match Play Championship, and move on to Saturday's Quarter Finals stage.
Darren Clarke completed a splendid days golf with a birdie three on the 16th hole to defeat World number 2 David Duval in the semi-final of the WGC Andersen Consulting Match Play Championship, and set up a Final with Tiger Woods who was eight under par in his 5&4 victory
